Your first step as an IU student is to attend New Student Orientation

All incoming, degree-seeking Hoosiers are required to attend a New Student Orientation (NSO) program in order to register for classes. During NSO you’ll meet with an academic advisor and register for your first semester classes. You’ll also learn about IU’s academics, support programs, and other resources. Plus, you’ll get familiar with campus and meet other new Hoosiers, and we’ll introduce you to the traditions and experiences that capture what it’s like to be an IU student.

We also have sessions for your parents and family. They’ll learn how IU helps you succeed and how they can support you.

Program schedules will vary based on the term you enter, but all are designed to help you get the information you need. See schedule samples here

Need help at NSO?

Our Orientation Team (OTeam) strives to help you have a positive experience when transitioning to the IU Bloomington campus. Don't be shy! Feel free to ask our OTeam any questions you may have while at NSO.

Parents and Family

This is also a time of transition for you so we offer a program for parents and family members at the same time as the student program with sessions that prepare you to support your student. You’ll also get to experience the community and campus where your student will live.
