Transfer Students

FYE is here to help in your transition to IU Bloomington

We’re looking forward to you continuing your education at IU Bloomington. Whether you’re transferring from another IU campus or from any other institution, we’re here to guide you from orientation through your first year in Bloomington in order to make your transition as smooth as possible.

Your New Student Orientation

All undergraduate students are required to attend New Student Orientation (NSO). You’ll participate in NSO with other IU students, but will have advising and resources just for transfer students.

During NSO, you will learn about campus resources, complete important tasks, have an academic advising session, and enroll in courses. Once you’ve made your NSO reservation, you’ll receive more information on important tasks. Watch your email for more information.

Understanding credit transfer

We know one of the biggest concerns transfer students have is understanding how credits will transfer to IU Bloomington. Use the Credit Transfer Service to verify which of your completed courses will transfer to IU Bloomington.

Academics and advising

At IU, you'll work with an academic advisor to explore major and career options. Exploratory students and pre-majors in business and nursing will work with an academic advisor from Advising and Major Exploration Services. Students with other majors will work with an advisor in their school or college.

Organizations and events just for you

Starting with Welcome Week, you’ll find events for all new students—including some only for transfer students. Begin with the Transfer Student Welcome event, where you’ll connect with current students on the Transfer Student Welcome Team, other new transfer students, and design your own Welcome Week experience to fit your needs.

Watch your email for events throughout the year, from DeStress Fest to career development opportunities. Plus, connect with Tau Sigma Honor Society, an undergraduate transfer student organization that recognizes high-achieving IU Bloomington transfer students.

You also have the opportunity to join the Transfer Student Advisory Board to share ideas about your transfer experience with others, create a community for transfer students, and serve in a leadership role on campus.

Every path is the right path. Everything could’ve been anything else and it would have just as much meaning. Go on and study what you are passionate about and don’t forget to have fun.
