There are a few things you’ll need to do before your orientation program, in order to be ready for your New Student Orientation academic advising and course registration appointment. You must complete required placement exams, review optional exams to consider for placement or credit, and get started on your New Student Orientation Canvas modules, some of which are required prior to your orientation program.

New Student Orientation Canvas modules
Prior to your chosen orientation program date(s), you will receive an invitation via email to your New Student Orientation Canvas site. You must complete all the Before Orientation modules prior to your orientation program to ensure that your academic advisor has the information they need to enroll you for the correct courses. In order to complete the correct module, confirm your New Student Orientation advising unit indicated on your orientation confirmation page within the Orientation Portal.
We want every student to be successful at IU, so we require all components—even if you’ve already taken college classes or are transferring from another college.
Be sure to look for the section in the Canvas site where you can explore and learn about campus resources available to you.
To access your Canvas modules
To access your Canvas modules, you will need to do the following:
- Set up your IU computing accounts.
- Set up your Two-Step Login (DUO) on your own device that you'll have at orientation.
- Check your IU email. This is where you’ll be notified once you are invited to the Canvas site.

Make sure to finish all tasks in your Atlas checklist. Failure to do so will prohibit you from registering for classes.
