Stay on task with your OEP Checklist

New students have a lot to keep track of—and we’re here to help. The OEP Checklist allows you to stay organized with many of the steps it takes to prepare for the first year at Indiana University. Once you have access to the NSO reservation system, you can log in to view your OEP Checklist, update it when you complete items, and save your progress.

Your personalized OEP Checklist is in your Orientation Portal. See the list below for a sample OEP Checklist:

Apply for on-campus housing or request an exemption
Complete and return the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to include the IU Bloomington FAFSA code: 001809.
Create your IU computing account and start checking your IU email.
Set up your Two-Step Login (Duo). We recommend you register your own device that you will have with you.
Sign up for text reminders from IU to get helpful updates on campus life, class registration, financial aid, and more.

Review IU billing and payment procedures.
Calculate your estimated costs with the MoneySmarts cost calculator.
Take all required placement exams:
- Math Placement Exam (ALEKS)
- Foreign Language Placement Exam (FLPE) (not for international students)
- Chemistry Placement Exam (if you are taking a chemistry course)
Complete the Request for Disability Services form if you have a learning or physical disability and need to register for services from the Office of Disability Services for Students (DSS).
Submit your photo to get your CrimsonCard (official student ID). Check your NSO confirmation page for details and deadlines.
Access your Student Center to confirm your contact information.
International students must make sure to finish all tasks in their Atlas checklist to be able to register for classes.
Complete your NSO Canvas Modules. You will be sent access information to your IU email once the modules are available.
Check your Transfer Credits with the Credit Transfer Service to see what courses have officially translated to IU Bloomington credit.
Create your profile on the Hoosier Network. Check your email for a personalized sign-in link.

Grant access to 3rd party users who will help with bills, review grades, class schedule, financial aid award or summary, and other personal information.
Set up direct deposit to receive financial aid refunds as appropriate.
Accept, reduce, or decline financial aid.
If you’re a first-time Federal Direct Loan borrower at IU, you’ll need to go through entrance counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) after your loan is accepted.
Sign your Title IV Authorization so your federal aid can apply to all charges on your bill.
Grant separate access to 3rd party users who need to view your housing contract and meal plan account.
Complete optional placement exams. Review your options detailed in your NSO confirmation page.
Connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network on your computer and mobile devices—it is the secure network at IU. Use your IU email address and passphrase to connect.

Submit your immunization information. For immunization information, contact the IU Student Health Center.
Before spending money on technology, check out the IU Computer Guide, IUware, and IUanyWare for special student discounts and free software.
Familiarize yourself with your meal plan to know about meal scans, exchanges, and dining dollars.
If you plan to park on campus, you must register your vehicle, motorcycle, or bicycle and properly display a valid parking permit. Keep in mind that campus is both biking and walking friendly and parking for cars is extremely limited.

Meet your Resident Assistant (RA) and attend your required floor meetings if you are living on campus.
International students must complete all required immunization and TB test.
Keep your emergency notification settings current to receive IU-Notify immediate danger alerts.
Record your name with NameCoach to help instructors and peers better pronounce it. You can then share it in Canvas, from your email signature, or even on social media.
Download the IU Mobile app and login to receive notifications, access support resources, and navigate learning at IU.

Create your Handshake account to find internship opportunities and part-time jobs. Wait for your personalized sign-up link after you enroll in classes.
Download the Rave Guardian app for access to personal safety resources and to easily reach the police.
Download the DoubleMap app to track campus and city of Bloomington bus routes.
Complete the required MyStudentBody online module. Watch your IU email for your invitation to get started and note that failure to complete it will result in a hold placed on your account.

Connect with mental health resources available to you on campus.
