Tau Sigma

Tau Sigma National Honor Society recognizes the high academic success of IU Bloomington transfer students.

Tau Sigma is a national academic honor society for students who have transferred from one institution (or institutions) to another and have made high academic achievement during their first term. Since its creation in 1999, over 100 Tau Sigma chapters at colleges all across the country have worked with students and schools to recruit and support transfer students.

The IU Bloomington Chapter of Tau Sigma was founded in 2015.

Tau Sigma FAQ's

New IU Bloomington transfer students who meet the eligibility criteria will be mailed an invitation to join the IU Bloomington Tau Sigma chapter in early January after completing their first semester at IU Bloomington.

  • If you are invited to join Tau Sigma, it is a one-time invitation with lifetime membership. That means the deadline on your invitation is very important.
  • We would encourage you to strongly consider joining.  Tau Sigma Honor Society membership looks great on your resume, there will be an additional opportunity for transfer-student specific scholarships, and there are many other benefits to joining as listed below.

  • IU Bloomington students who accept membership will be inducted into the society at the formal Tau Sigma Induction Ceremony in early spring.
  • Tau Sigma members are eligible for leadership opportunities by joining the IU Bloomington Tau Sigma student executive board.
  • Tau Sigma members frequently hold social events like coffee hours, outdoor fun, outings to explore downtown Bloomington, and more!
  • Tau Sigma members become leaders among the IU Bloomington transfer student population by providing a student voice for transfer student orientation and welcome week programs in conjunction with the Office of First Year Experience Programs.
  • The Tau Sigma National Office provides scholarship opportunities to members of local chapters.
