Travel information

You’ll probably fly into and out of the Indianapolis International Airport. You can rent a car or take a shuttle (see below) to Bloomington.

GO Express Travel, (800) 589-6004, travels between the Indianapolis International Airport and Bloomington several times each day. They also have private cars and a shuttle to and from the Chicago area.

Catch-A-Ride provides student-only express bus service from IU to Chicago, northwest Indiana, and South Bend-area destinations for semester breaks and select holidays and weekends.

Check current state travel conditions and road closings for the Bloomington area. Heavy construction on SR-37 and shorter-term projects on and around campus are ongoing.

Most of our NSO programs last two days. Note that only the summer NSO program in June and July offers housing on campus for students. Several local hotels also offer NSO packages for participants. Your NSO confirmation will include information for you and your guests about how to make lodging arrangements.

Summer programs

Be sure to follow the directions on the parking permit we send you in your NSO preparation packet (sent via U.S. Mail prior to your program). The closest parking lots to the program check-in location are on Union Street, south of Eigenmann Residence Center, and on Tenth Street, north of Ashton Residence Center.

The parking permit will allow you to park in spots marked as EM-P, EM-S, CH, and ST in limited parking lots. Your parking permit must be displayed on your car dashboard, and you must be legally parked. Do not park in Carpool, Metered, Reserved (R), Service (SV), or "No Parking" spaces.

Fall, Spring, and Summer Session programs

Parking information will vary by program. Please check your NSO Online Confirmation for details. There are two pay lots near the IMU, and we will provide a voucher for half-off the cost of parking there. Parking in these lots is very limited and may be difficult. To avoid an unwanted parking ticket, review parking information here.
