Incoming Freshmen & Transfer Students

This two-day program is for all students entering IU during the spring semester. It’s typically held the Wednesday and Thursday before the semester starts. If you're eligible for the spring program, we'll send you information about making your reservation in Mid-November.

Day 1

Your day starts with the check-in and a program overview at mid-day and includes a variety of required sessions in the afternoon. Want to get to know the campus and other students? Come to the optional evening programs.

Day 2

Your personalized schedule includes meeting one-on-one with your academic advisor, registering for courses, and getting your student ID.

Sessions

The sessions you will attend include:

  • “Professor’s Perspective,” in which an IU faculty member discusses expectations in the classroom
  • “The Hoosier Experience,” about your transition to college and student life at IU, including how to get involved, make friends, and succeed academically
  • Informational sessions on topics like career services, finances and billing, technology, student services, and the CampusAccess Card (student ID)
  • A group session on advising at IU
  • Optional Biology placement exam

Parents

Parents

IU’s spring orientation is for students entering IU during the spring semester. The program for parents and guests lasts one day, coinciding with the first day of the student program.

You and your student will start the program together but also have several sessions apart. The program begins at mid-day with the check-in and an overview. In the afternoon, you’ll go to sessions about IU academics, services, and student support. And in the late afternoon, you and your student will learn about advising and finances.

Staying in town for day 2 of your student’s program? We suggest taking a relaxing day to explore Bloomington.
