Orientation and Transition

New Student Orientation

Program Schedule

Students enter IU at four points throughout the year, so FYE offers four distinct New Student Orientation programs for students and their parents:

  • Summer, our largest program, attended by most students who enter IU in the fall
  • Fall, for students entering in the fall who couldn’t attend the summer program
  • Spring, for students entering IU in the spring semester
  • Summer session, for students who begin taking courses during a summer session

The four New Student Orientation programs vary a bit, but they all include sessions such as:

  • An overview of IU advising by area of study
  • Academic advising appointment
  • Registration for courses
  • “Professor’s Perspective,” in which an IU faculty member discusses expectations in the classroom
  • Topical sessions on subjects like finances and billing, technology, health and safety, student success resources, student issues and involvement, and the CampusAccess Card (student ID).
  • Student ID pick-up
