Orientation and Transition

IUBeginnings is a historically successful program exclusively for new IU students as they transition to college life. For 2.5-3 days, new students explore activities and interest in a particular area. Through this, they connect with other new students, current student leaders, and faculty/staff coordinators in meaningful and unique ways. Every IUBeginnings participant leaves the experience with new friends, and more confidence and knowledge about life as a college student and Hoosier. Included in each IUBeginnings experience is learning through planned activities, discussions, reflection, and fun!

Experiences will fall into one of three categories or tracks:

  • IUBAdventurous

IUBAdventurous experiences offer activities such as backpacking, kayaking, caving, canoeing, hiking, and biking. Participants will engage with new students who are outdoor enthusiasts or first-time outdoor explorers and connect over their love of nature. Experiences include:

  • IUBCultured

IUBCultured experiences offer an opportunity for students to connect over their love of the arts and achievement in culturally rich areas. These experiences also allow students to explore together the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people or other social group. Experiences include:

  • IUBEngaged

IUBEngaged experiences offer a chance to focus on service and/or civic engagement. Students will enjoy participating in community service and involvement while connecting with other new students on a shared interest in social impact and the importance of giving back. Experiences include:
