The IN Crowd

The IN Crowd: Widening the Circle is designed to engage first year students in meaningful and heartfelt conversations about the elements of identity, privilege, and difference for the purpose of building an inclusive campus community. Along with a small group of other first year students, you will have the opportunity to develop a better understanding of your own identity, hear about the experiences of others, and discuss the influence of media, community, and institutional perspectives on issues related to inclusion.

Program Details

This five-week program takes place each spring. Small groups of first year students meet weekly for two hours to participate in group activities, discuss of current events, and explore what it means to be part of an inclusive community. A student and a member of the IU faculty or staff facilitate each session. At the conclusion of the five-week program, participants will be honored at our Community Celebration event.

Registration

Each spring, we will offer multiple dates and times for group meetings to best meet the needs of your semester course schedule. Registration for the program will take place online right here on our website.

Become a Facilitator

We are looking for a cohort of facilitators to participate. In addition to the two hours per week commitment of the program sessions, you will also be expected to:

  • attend a facilitators retreat at the beginning of the semester
  • communicate weekly with The IN Crowd program coordinator
  • meet weekly with your co-facilitator
  • follow up individually as necessary with members of your group

The process for selecting facilitators for Spring 2013 will begin soon!
