Incoming Freshmen & Transfer Students

This two-day program is for students who are entering IU in the fall but could not attend the traditional summer program. The fall program is held in August, starting a week before the semester begins and finishing in time for Welcome Week.

If you’re eligible for the fall program, we’ll send you information about making your reservation in mid- to late July.

Day 1

Your day starts with check-in and a program overview at mid-day and includes a variety of required information and academic advising sessions in the afternoon. You will want to eat lunch before you check-in for your program. Required sessions will be conclude by 7 p.m. Want to get to know the campus and other students? Come to the optional evening programs.

Day 2

Your personalized schedule includes meeting one-on-one with your academic advisor, registering for courses, and getting your student ID. Individual schedules vary and may end as late as 6 p.m.

Sessions

The sessions you will attend include:

  • “Professor’s Perspective,” in which an IU faculty member discusses expectations in the classroom
  • The “Hoosier Experience,” about your transition to college and student life at IU, including how to get involved, make friends, and succeed academically
  • Informational sessions on topics such as career services, finances and billing, technology, student services, and the CampusAccess Card (student ID)
  • A group meeting about advising at IU
  • Required and optional placement exams
Parents

Parents

IU’s fall orientation is for students who are entering IU in the fall but could not attend the traditional summer program. The program for parents and guests lasts one day, coinciding with the first day of the student program.

You and your student will start the program together but also have several sessions apart. The program begins at mid-day with check-in and an overview. In the afternoon, you’ll go to sessions about IU academics, services, and student support. And in the late afternoon, you and your student will learn about advising and finances. Your program will conclude by 7 p.m.

Staying in town for day 2 of your student’s program? We suggest taking a relaxing day to explore Bloomington.
