Welcome to all New IU Students

Please carefully read the information on this page and respond to the statements below before you enter the AlcoholEDU course.

We are happy to have you join the Indiana University community and add our welcome to those of the entire campus. As you know, in a community all members have responsibilities - to themselves, to each other and to the greater community. Part of your responsibility, and an expectation of you as a new student, is to take an active role in your experience, to participate in your own education, to ask questions, and to speak up when you need assistance. To help guide students is The Indiana Promise:

I promise that:
I will be ethical in my academic work.
I will take personal responsibility for what I say and do.
I will respect the dignity of others, treating them
with civility and understanding.

To understand The Indiana Promise, you need to understand that:

But promises are not only one-way. At Indiana University, we promise that there are faculty and staff who care about your success and who can and will assist you along your way. We promise that you will have the opportunity to connect with other students in healthy, productive, and engaging ways through activities and organizations. We promise to do what we can to provide resources and support to promote a fun, safer, more civil community in which you can learn, explore and connect.

As in all communities, there are policies and procedures to guide us; they help us understand expectations, they keep us safer and better informed and responsive to those around us. At Indiana University, you can find these in the Code of Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct ("the Code") and in the A to Z Guide to Residence Hall Living. All IU students are expected to be familiar with the Code; students living on campus are expected to also be familiar with the A to Z Guide.

We want you to consider the promise you're making. As you do, know that there are tools at IU and the support to give you the basis for good decision making – for your safety, for your academics, for your success. One such tool is the mandatory online course called AlcoholEdu/SexualAssaultEdu. All students new to IU must take this online course. In fact, this is so important to the IU community that, in order to register for second semester classes, you must have completed this course. When you are ready to begin, simply check the boxes below and you will be directed to the site where you can start.

Let's Keep Our Promise!

By checking the boxes below, you are acknowledging your responsibility for understanding the expectations outlined in the documents above as well as the tenets of The Indiana Promise.
